The Center for Discovery
Adolescent Residential Treatment Program
Center for Discovery is a residential treatment program dedicated exclusively to adolescents struggling with eating disorders and dual diagnosis issues. Since 1997, we have been committed to helping teens and their families achieve long-term recovery. Discovery programs were designed to be intensive interventions that include the family as part of the treatment process, allowing the teen to return home quickly with optimal results. We combine the finest traditional inpatient approaches with creative, innovative and individualized interventions that position our therapeutic experience at the forefront of adolescent treatment. We believe that just as eating disorders and dual diagnosis disorders require specialized treatment, so do adolescents. Discovery offers professional, structured environments with the comfort and nurturing of serene home-like settings where adolescents can safely address their challenges. At Discovery, we assist hundreds of teens and their families annually across six California campuses, with several new programs in other states planned.
The Center for Discovery Eating Disorders Program
Center for Discovery's Eating Disorder program is the first comprehensive residential treatment program in California dedicated solely to the treatment of adolescent males and females (ages 10 - 19 years old). Our individualized and intensive treatment experience, under twenty-four hour supervision, is particularly effective in identifying and addressing the destructive behaviors and underlying emotional issues of anorexia, bulimia, binge eating and other complex disordered eating. Discovery utilizes highly skilled and specialized healthcare professionals and we work within a multi-disciplinary treatment team. Each member of our team demonstrates a deep commitment to the healing and well-being of the teen and their families. We have a low resident to staff ratio, which allows our residents to experience a very individualized and intensive treatment program. Our campuses are located in nurturing home-like settings in Downey, Lakewood, Menlo Park, and Whittier, CA.
The Center for Discovery Dual Diagnosis Program
The Dual Diagnosis program at Center for Discovery was created to help adolescent males and females (ages 12 - 17 years old) who struggle with alcohol and drug addiction, depression, anxiety disorders, abuse, grief, sexual acting out, failing at school, emotional and behavioral issues and other self-injurious behaviors. The goal of Center for Discovery's Dual Diagnosis programs is to therapeutically intervene in behavioral and relational patterns thereby creating an opportunity for dramatic and enduring change for both the teen and his or her family. After each resident is carefully assessed, a comprehensive treatment plan is designed. Each treatment plan targets the resident's specific needs and guides the treatment experience from admission through discharge and continuing care. Our homes are located in La Habra Heights, Long Beach, and Whittier, CA.

Medical professionals refer teens to Center for Discovery when their clients are not successful on an outpatient basis. These teens are in need of a higher level of care. There are also times when hospitals refer to Discovery as a step-down program for longer term residential treatment. We understand this process and have strict clinical criteria before admitting to our program. We also understand that not all teens are in need of residential treatment. That is why our admissions office has an extensive list of resources at all levels of care suitable for most circumstances.
