Center for Discovery sets itself apart by providing Discovery in Recovery DD and ED Programs FREE to all residents, their families, and members of the community seeking support with adolescents struggling with substance abuse and eating disorders. This unique program consists of Parent and Young People’s support group meetings run by counselors at various locations throughout the West Coast.
The Discovery in Recovery Dual Diagnosis Program utilizes the philosophies of AA/NA and Al-anon. CFD in-house residents and their parents attend these meetings and become active alumni members when they discharge. CFD has a dedicated Discovery in Recovery Coordinator who meets with the resident while in treatment specifically to inspire a life of recovery. The Discovery in Recovery Coordinator develops an individualized 12 Step meeting plan and connects the resident with recovery peers in their home town as well as introduces them to a calendar of sober events.
The Discovery in Recovery Eating Disorder Program provides a place for our ED alumni and their families to receive continued weekly support. CFD has a dedicated team of ED professionals available to offer special in-services and lectures to expand the understanding of this disorder. CFD understands that one of the key guarantors of success after residential treatment is having a viable support system in place at discharge. Discovery in Recovery can be an integral part of that system.
Our meeting started as the CFD Eating Disorder Alumni Group, and has now grown into a community resource for recovery. The group consisting of interested individuals, residents, alumni, and family members who have come together to share their strengths as well as their struggles with eating disorders in a supportive atmosphere.
We share our experience, strength and hope with each other. The only requirement for membership is a willingness to grow. There are no dues or fees for Discovery in Recovery membership. You are welcome here and you are welcome to bring your friends and family – the only requirement is that they share in our desire for recovery.
Parents and Young People meet separately. The groups are lead by a coordinator and therapist.
